The German government subsidizes solar panels and they pay about 8$ per gallon for gas. Solar needs subsidies because it take 30 to 50 years for a solar panel to generate enough electricity to pay for itself. If it brakes the ROI even point never occurs. Further more, over time solar panels loose their efficiency.
There is no better energy supply that oil at this time. There is nothing cheaper or as efficient as taking oil from the ground, transporting it, cracking it and then using internal combustion to to work. In our lifetime they're never be an Electric plane, electric tracker trailer or a viable all electric car. Without oil our lives as we know it are over. Take oil out and we're back to 1900.
